Marimekko series Unikko
The Unikko design was created in 1964 by Maija Isola and has since become an international icon of marimekko. Marimekko's founder, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to capture the true essence of real flowers in print. That is why floral prints were previously excluded from Marimekko's collections.
Maija Isola therefore designed Unikko as an abstraction of a flower instead of a photorealistic representation. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko's design identity.
2024 is the year that Marimekko celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Unikko design. Special editions, sometimes with a link in terms of colors to the 1960s, but also new designs are released that year. The special editions have a special anniversary stamp on the bottom.
