Wooden tray - American pondweed
Because illustrator Teemu Järvi spends a lot of time in nature, observing a lot, he captures nature in a fantastic way.
The original American waterweed print is inspired by an old Asian printing method known as 'gyotaku'. This old Asian printing method is a fascinating way to capture memories and experiences in the wilderness. With this method, ink is applied directly to the natural subject, which is then rubbed or pressed onto paper to create the image. The method captures fish and plants extremely delicately, repeating even the smallest details such as fish scales and stems and veins of a plant.
The trays are designed and handmade in Finland from Finnish birch wood. On the tray a beautiful illustration of the American waterweed on the front and a small, matching illustration on the bottom, which gives the tray that little bit extra. The series contains various illustrations.

Muurla x Teemu Järvi Collection
Muurla: "Far up in the north of Finland, in Lapland, way beyond the Arctic Circle, there is a place called Savukoski where a man has retreated to his hut for inspiration. Known worldwide as Teemu Järvi, a Finnish artist, in the wilderness of Lapland, he is just another lifeform surrounded by the seemingly endless number of other living creatures and things.”
Teemu Järvi’s unembellished Nordic style is inspired by traditional art techniques, such as using a reed pen he crafts himself. Combined with Muurla’s timeless design, this collaboration creates a harmonious blend that pays humble and beautiful homage to Nordic nature.
