Dottir Samsurium flower pot spruce green small

NIEUW
Product description

The beautiful shape of this Samsurium plant pot from Dottir Nordic Design is inspired by their own towerbell vases. The result is a decorative and graphic flower pot, also suitable for herb plants.

The shape is derived from art deco glass lampshades and, combined with the lovely green glaze, it becomes a true eye-catcher for your home.

Dimensions: 13.5x11.5mm

Samsurium - A Unique Combination

The Samsurium series by Dottir is a blend of the sharp, the soft, the strong, and the delicate. All these elements are brought together in recognizable forms, but in an entirely new way. Each piece tells its own story, and that story can vary depending on the viewer. Dottir's products are of high quality and highly detailed, each with a unique appearance.

About Dottir Nordic Design

Dottir is a Danish brand specializing in ceramics. Their products reflect the rich tradition of Danish and Scandinavian design, combined with modern production methods and handcrafted craftsmanship. The inspiration for the Dottir collection comes from the ambiance of the North: the dark, cold winters and the light, warm summer nights, the deep, quiet lakes, and the turbulent sea. Each product plays on the strong contrasts characteristic of the North.

Many of Dottir Nordic Design’s pieces take years to develop because only a few producers worldwide can handle the special designs and intricate glazing processes. The products are finished in Dehua, Fujian in China, a region renowned for its ceramics, such as 'blanc de chine.' Ceramic production here dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Thora Finnsdottir studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and now works as a ceramist, designer, and artist. Her work is known for the passion to bring recognizable forms to life in new ways. With great precision and a sense of form, she challenges the imagination and senses.

The Creation Process - From Idea to Production

The process begins with an idea from one of Dottir’s designers, who creates a prototype to visualize the concept. Then, a lengthy process of material production starts with carefully selected partners. They create multiple rounds of samples for shape and glaze before the product is approved for production. Dottir’s products feature complex designs and special glazes. Only a few manufacturers worldwide can produce these items due to the advanced production methods and techniques required. Making ceramics is a complex process.

Handmade Craftsmanship

All parts of production are done by hand, which means small differences in the final product, such as size and glaze color. However, this also gives the product a unique appearance; no two items are exactly the same. All processes are carried out by hand, from design to production.

The products are cast in handmade plaster molds, and the casting process is affected by humidity, how often the mold has been used, and the technique of the caster. Afterward, the product is hand-finished and often assembled from multiple parts before being fired twice. Depending on the temperature, type of kiln, and placement in the kiln, the product can have different expressions. Many of the glazes are sensitive to thickness and kiln temperature, causing variations within the same hue. Finally, the product is hand-polished on the bottom and marked with the Dottir logo, indicating it is designed by a designer and handcrafted by a skilled artisan.

Dottir's partners in China and Portugal are carefully selected to ensure the right quality.
