Marimekko Unikko shaped plate 13.5cm orange-red
A beautiful orange red Unikko flower-shaped plate from Marimekko made of white stoneware. The plate has a diameter of approx. 13cm. A real eye-catcher!
Marimekko recommends washing the plate by hand. Although it can be machine washed, there is an additional risk (due to its shape) of damage if it comes into contact with other dishes in the dishwasher.
The Unikko plate is a special 60th Anniversary edition and has the Marimekko logo embossed on the bottom. The sign is packaged in a Unikko 60th anniversary box.
Marimekko Unikko
The Unikko design was created in 1964 by Maija Isola and has since become an international icon of marimekko. Marimekko's founder, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to capture the true essence of real flowers in print. That is why floral prints were previously excluded from Marimekko's collections.
Maija Isola therefore designed Unikko as an abstraction of a flower instead of a photorealistic representation. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko's design identity.
2024 is the year that Marimekko celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Unikko design. Special editions, sometimes with a link in terms of colors to the 1960s, but also new designs are released that year.
Mix & match
The power of Marimekko lies in, among other things, the ability to mix the various designs. Because the basic shapes of the service are always the same, it ensures peace and unity and you can go ahead in terms of designs. You do not have to purchase the service in one go. On the contrary, it is nice to always buy a few items and gradually expand your collection. Some people choose to have everything in 1 design, some mix it loose.

Marimekko designer Sami Ruotsalainen loves cooking. When he designed the new Oiva service, he was looking for the ideal plate for different dishes, the perfect cup for tea and the best cup for coffee. But he wanted to limit the number of different service items and that's why he designed the service items in such a way that they can be used in different ways and yet are also characteristic of their function.
To determine the right size, he studied the standard sizes, but he also looked at classic dishes from his grandmother's time. With all these findings he formed and determined the shape of the new Oiva service, which is unique and characteristic of Marimekko. Oiva white (off-white) is the basis and the collections differ in prints on the service. With the collections, the pattern / design is placed around the Oiva basic set.
