Product description

The Glerups Shoe (shoe shape) in light gray is a fine slipper with a honey colored rubber sole. Thanks to the rubber sole, you can walk around the block with the Glerups. These are suitable for outdoors.

Glerups also has slippers with leather soles, for which it is recommended to wear them only indoors.

Glerups – Danish slippers for the home and outside

This Glerups Shoe slipper is made of 100% pure natural wool with a rubber sole. The shape of the slipper follows the contours of your foot and ensures a good fit, so that it stays on the foot. The slipper feels sturdy and yet very light and flexible. The slipper keeps your feet warm and dry in winter and cool and dry in summer, thanks to the natural properties of wool. With the slippers with Rubber sole, you can go outdoors. For purely indoor use, we have slippers with a leather sole.

Choose the right size

We advise you to come by to find the right size, but for those who are unable to do so, we hereby give some tips to determine your size. Keep in mind that the fit does not only depend on the length, but also on the shape of your foot, e.g. narrow or wide. The sizes of Glerups are fairly similar to regular shoe sizes. If you have a half size, we recommend a size larger anyway. The Glerups will conform to your foot and will spread out a bit, but not very much. This table is based on the length of the lasts used for production. It can only be used as an indication as the best way to find the right fit is to try on a physical model.

Size chart Glerups - How do you measure your foot?

  1. Place your heel against a wall.
  2. Measure the length from the wall to the tip of your longest toe and longest foot. Usually both feet are not equal in length, so measure both feet.
  3. Check your height and choose the right size (round up) based on the diagram below.

Glerups - Danish Design

The Glerups slippers are known for their exceptional comfort. This is due to the foot-shaped and unique design in combination with the softness and warmth of the wool. The classic felt boot has been made since the company was founded and was the basis for developing new product designs for their collection. The designs are also based on a long tradition of hand felting, which they have transformed into innovative products of the highest quality. The craft has been translated into the industrial production of Glerups. But parts of the production are still done manually as they require a special skill to accomplish. A specific skill that cannot be performed by a machine.

100% Natural

The wool is washed in soft water, then carded and felted. The felt is formed into socks, which are steam felted for a perfect fit, before the soft calfskin soles are glued and then sewn on for longevity. The soles meet the strict environmental requirements of the EU. The rubber soles are designed and built with a special pattern that provides better grip on different surfaces. The collection consists of beautiful natural Scandinavian colors. Glerups develops new colors when it makes sense and/or the time is right.

Quality materials

Glerups started with wool from their own Gotland sheep. Over the years they have found the perfect blend of wool to give the Glerups a long life. Glerups mixes Gotland wool from Denmark with white quality wool from New Zealand. These livestock farmers meet the high standards for consistent quality and animal-friendly animal welfare. Each sheep is treated with respect and they live and graze in a free and natural environment. Glerups work with their selected farmers every step of the way, following every pair of Glerups from the sheep to your feet.

Wool is self-cleaning - Wool is a natural product with self-cleaning properties. This is due to the natural fat of the wool fiber, lanolin. When the sheep get wet, a process occurs between the lanolin and the sheep's natural alkaline salts from perspiration, which together form a natural soap that cleans the wool. To some extent, we benefit from the same properties when the wool is made into a pair of slippers. Therefore, it is not necessary to wash woolen products very often. In fact, it's better to just let them breathe during a nice day in the garden. A nice advantage for you and nature.

Wool is breathable - Wool is not only sweat-absorbent, but of course also breathable!

Wool regulates the temperature on the skin, just as sheep would in nature. Therefore, you can easily wear wool when you are active in the forest, on the beach or at home in the garden, because it wicks moisture away from the body. Of course, this also applies to the feet.

“Keep in mind that wool works best on bare skin, so we recommend wearing slippers without socks. Bare feet are always best for Glerups!” - said Glerups

Wool is a natural product - Precisely because the wool is a natural product, very small vegetable fibers (grass or straw) may appear in the felt from time to time. Glerups consciously chooses not to chemically strip their wool to prevent this. It also shows you visually how natural your footwear is. Your Glerups will normally pill during the first 3-5 weeks of wearing them. This is mostly due to the natural treatment of the wool and the compression underfoot to create your own custom footbed. If you notice that your slippers are starting to pill, simply remove the wool fluff and continue to use your glerups as normal. This process will decrease over time.

You will also experience color differences from production to production, this is also natural when working with 100% wool as Glerups choose to use non-toxic chemicals to dye the colours.

Five good reasons to use wool all year round

  1. Keeps you warm in the cold and cool in the heat
  2. Absorbs moisture and keeps your feet dry
  3. Protects against odors
  4. Comfortable and soft to wear - itch free
  5. 100% pure natural wool - good for people, nature and animals

Production with care

It has always been a clear objective of Glerups to produce all their products with care for people and nature. All models are designed in Denmark and produced in their own factory in Romania. They strive for the highest quality and therefore require strict quality control in production. Their skilled employees work conscientiously and know the quality requirements of the company and the customers. Glerup is a family name and the founder has put her name on the products to indicate that they vouch for it.

How do you care for your Glerups?

Because wool naturally has the ability to clean itself, your slippers will stay fresh if you just let them breathe and rest on a regular basis.
To remove stains, we recommend gently cleaning the stain with a slightly damp cloth, possibly with wool soap. You may need to repeat the process a few times, but always make sure to let the slippers dry before starting again.
Vacuum or blow your Glerups clean of dust. Leather soles can be brushed and cleaned with a leather brush.
Rubber soles can be wiped with a wet cloth, make sure to give them some time to dry after cleaning.
Be careful, soles made of natural rubber or leather can be slippery on wet and icy surfaces such as tiles.
All the uppers are made of 100% pure and natural wool and therefore you may experience color differences from batch to batch.

About Glerups

Glerups headquarters is located in the north of Denmark – in the countryside with fields, trees and fresh air. The headquarters is home to the Glerup family and as Glerups has grown over the years, part of the journey has been to rebuild, refurbish and expand the office facilities. Today, the new warehouse is on the field, where Nanny used to have her own Gotland sheep. They cherish the beautiful surroundings of our headquarters and find inspiration and energy in the fresh and natural environment.

How it all started...

The 1970s is a decade of increased awareness of many social issues and one of the many emerging trends is self-sufficiency. Danish mother Nanny Glerup sees the potential and enrolls in a felting course where she makes a pair of boots for her husband Ove. The comfort of the wool and the snug fit mean that Ove wears the felt boots everywhere and the first seed is planted in Nanny's mind. Ove's first steps in those boots are also the first steps towards the development of a unique brand and philosophy: Glerups.
