Architectmade Duck H18.5cm Teak wood

Behind this duck (Duck) from Architectmade is a beautiful story of how designer Hans Bølling came up with the idea for this design.

In 1959 in Frederiksberg, a family of ducks waddled into a busy street during rush hour. The police officers stopped the traffic for cars and pedestrians, allowing the cute family to cross safely. This charming moment made headlines in local newspapers and captured the hearts of the Danes.

Hans Bølling, a Danish architect and the creator of Duck and Duckling for Architectmade, was charmed by this story of the ducks. He decided to bring them to life, so that everyone could have them on their windowsill. Handmade from solid teak, they are a perfectly refined product with movable heads. Maintenance: To maintain the color, Architectmade recommends using a wood oil that is suitable for Teak. In their repair shop they use beeswax balm.

Hans Bølling's work is known for its playfulness, humor and wit. A passionate spirit, whose work and products are inspired by creative diversity. Bølling's interest in architecture became so strong that after training as a commercial artist he went back to school for a second degree. This allowed him to expand his practice from objects to include villas, housing complexes and town halls.

Early in his career he began making small figures from botanical materials as gifts for family and friends. The precision and personality in his objects laid the foundation for success, as he soon began selling his wooden figures to shops.

Bølling won a prize for his designs and invested the prize money in his own woodworking machine. Access to the means of production gave the starting signal for the production of Bølling's now famous duck series Duck & Duckling in 1950.
